Welcome to the Character Design section on the site. I've been sketching, drawing, and painting characters since i was very young.

It started with John Romita Jr.'s Spider-man which was the basis for me learning to draw poses and understanding line variation.

From there influences from anime and cartoons played a huge role in arriving at the style of work i do now. I can pick up any style and mimic it. However there's an ease in producing the 'El Grego' style, because its my own.

Sketching is the basis for my characters. I like the grainy texture the pencil has to offer. When finishing the work, I try to keep the pencil work and clean it up only where it needs to be cleaned up.

Van Gogh said that one should draw as simply as one would speak. That idea is exactly what I continue to seek out in my sketchbooks.

To speak clearly visually, one needs to increase their visual lexicon. I have come far but understand its a long road in front of me. Good thing I like to travel!
